A Historic Day

It will be when this man turns his back on our club.

Derek Llambias

Derek Llambias was appointed as deputy chairman of Newcastle United on 6th May 2008. Derek had previously been managing director of the exclusive Fifty Club in London, supposedly a haunt of Mike Ashley.

Llambias joined as deputy chairman and remained in that position until the departure of Chris Mort was announced on june 17th 2008. Llambias was named as the new MD rather than chairman, that alone has probably saved him from being awarded the title "Worst Chairman Ever."

Llambias has arguably presided over the single worst 12 months in the clubs history. We'll have had similar periods of poor performance on or off the pitch but I can't think of a year when everything both on and off the pitch has gone wrong. It would be almost impossible to try to write a script for some fictional character that performed so badly. One or two of his problems could be put down to bad luck. The number of problems which have surfaced under the tenure of Derek Llambias must point to somebody who just isn't able to run a football club at Premiership level.

Take a bow, you’ve managed to make Freddy Shepherd look better than he did just over 1 year ago and that is shocking.
