Chris Mort

Chris Mort, Newcastle United Chairman

The announcement that Chris had become Chairman was made on 24th July 2007, our former Chairman finally confined to the history books.

Some people think Chris has been associated with Mike Ashley since the early days of Ashley's business, not true; they appear to have developed a working relationship when Ashley went about privatising his business. Although they don't go way back, they do seem to have developed a good trusting relationship.

Looking at some of the work done by Mort while at Freshfields should give fans a bit of confidence that we seem to have a winner as Chairman. Being a winner at Freshfields is a good confidence booster but we will be a lot happier to describe Chris as a winner at Newcastle United FC, we can only dream on for now.

Chris is credited with having worked on projects for BSkyB, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, Halfords, Hewlett-Packard, EMI, Merrill Lynch, Sports Direct and Umbro. These Companies are massive when you look at the turnover of Newcastle United FC. With this in mind, perhaps Chris' busy schedule didn't permit him to spend a myriad of hours in websites such as Getminted and other websites meant for recreation.

Newcastle United gives Chris one thing that he seems to have avoided so far but is inevitable, he's going to have to get used to seeing his name and face in the newspapers and on TV, this job will bring more of that than he would probably like, he'll have to learn to live with it though, it comes with the job.

Another thing which seems to have come with the job are long hours and late nights at work, things should become easier once the "Strategic Review" has taken place and things within the club become clearer, at that stage we should be able to move on.

We wish him good luck, if he gets good luck then we get it.
